Tres Carnes Brisket Taco
I remember not too long ago finding real BBQ in NYC was few and far between…same for real Mexican food. Thankfully those days are long past…as a matter of fact if you’re in the mood for either or both…you can mosey on over to Tres Carnes for smoked BBQ meats served with Mexican sides, condiments and beverages. Tres Carnes as the name says offer three(3) meats, pork, brisket and chicken(there is also a vegetarian option and a daily meat special) You choose between soft tacos(2), wrapped in a burrito or in a bowl of rice or greens. I went 1 Pork and 1 Brisket taco topped with tomato salsa and some cotija cheese. They were both very good as was the chicken I tasted. All three(3)had their own unique flavor.

Choosing sides was not easy…do I go Street-Cart Corn, Blackeyed Black Beans, Brisket Burnt Ends Chili, or Smoky Guacamole? I went with the guacamole with chips which was fresh chunky and packed with flavor(and was awesome a couple of days later on the breakfast taco I made:) For salsa’s to kick things up they have four(4) ranging from mild to XXX. I wanted to try a few so I mini cups of the medium (tomatillo with jalapenos) and of course the XXX (tomato with habanero …warning this packed some heat, but it was great) and some crema(just in case the XXX lived up to its name…which it did:).

To wash it all down I had their Cucumber, Green Apple, Lime Aqua Fresco(please make Paletas out of these with some Serrano’s for summer…:) They have a Limeade, a number of soda’s and will be offering multiple versions  of Michelada’s(Beer cocktails) in two(2) weeks. I was pretty full, but their smoked sugar, cinnamon with a squirt of Dulce Con Leche donut (made by La New Yorkina) sounded just too good…so I had to try one. It was muy bueno…save some room or get one to go.

I had the opportunity to meet “Pit-Master” Mike Rodriguez (from Austin Texas’s, Salt Lick…the place with the really long lines at Big Apple BBQ) and Sacha Shor the Executive Chef. They were both great and very gracious discussing the menu, the neighborhood and upcoming additions to the menu…such as Paletas and should they do Breakfast Taco’s. If you live, work, or just love breakfast taco’s, you might want to mention how much you would love if they offered them…I’ll be back for some more of their tasty Texican tacos, try out some more sides and of course enjoy a Michelada or two(3:)…
