Cantina Royale

Looking for a great new Mexican spot with authentic Mexican food? Say hello to…Cantina Royale. So far I’ve sampled their Lunch special, some of their homemade from scratch salsas and a Margarita. For lunch aside from the regular menu they have a $10 special that gives you a choice of Torta(sandwich), a bowl of soup of the day  and a half corn on the cob…with cotija cheese, lime and chile pepper(as good if not better then a certain place known for it) Torta choices include Pork, Beef, Shrimp,Chicken, Mushrooms and Spinach.

The cup of soup came out first with the piece of corn. It was a very big bowl loaded with diced veggies that some heat. The mushrooms in it gave it a really earthy flavor. I went with the Lomo Adobado -Pork, Adobo of chile refried beans, lettuce, tomato, onion, and mayo served on a Portuguese sized roll. It came with Pikylus Salsa -3 different red chiles which I found tasty but not too spicy. While looking at the menu I saw Chimichurru jalapeno listed…which I had to try. Think pesto but not so finely ground. Though it has jalapenos in it…it wasn’t spicy but was packed with flavor. Wondered if they sold the stuff…

Cantina Royale offers half size margarita ‘s as well as  full sized…thing is the “half” are served in 12oz Rock glasses and the full sized are served in a pint! They have Lime,Mango,Cucumber,Jalapeno and a few other fruit versions. Fruit are rimmed with chile salt ,while green are rimmed with hibiscus salt. I had the Cucumber which was very refreshing with a touch of heat…and loved the Cherry (Hibiscus) flavored salt rim. The main menu looked good with a fair amount of choices…especially the Octopus BLT torta, the Sausage with Jalapeno Chimichurri, and the Enchiladas mole made with Mast chocolate. Cantina Royale’s salsas are available for sale for $8 for a 4oz jar. The Jalapeno Chimichurri as well…which is sitting in my refrigerator. Add this to your best Margarita, Lunch Specials, and Real Mexican food lists…
