My brother got tickets to see Depeche Mode at Jones Beach and invited me since he knows I’m a fan. We met up for dinner first, something quick but good and not too fancy. He recommended Pit Stop after seeing it on Guy Fieri’s show. I expected a high calorie greasy spoon with a limited menu which turned out to not be the case whatsoever. Its a huge and varied menu full of sandwiches, wraps, salads, sides, seafood, and of course burgers and dogs.
We ordered the Cuban Sandwich, Tuna Tataki salad and Spaghetti Squash to share, this way getting a taste from all around the menu. The Cuban Sandwich is a very good sandwich…though not so much a great Cuban. Don’t take this as a bad thing necessarily…its big and its good, its just not authentic Cubano(a combo of the bread they use, adding sweet peppers and the pork). In other words aside from fellow Cubano snobs…most will be very happy with it. The Tuna Tataki salad came with a nice amount of fresh tasty coated in B&W sesame seeds. It came with two sauces Miso and a Soy based sauce. Both were rather thick, yet very tasty. The Spaghetti Squash was in a light red sauce with cauliflower mixed in and topped with cheese. Again another tasty dish.
Portions across the board are good size and we enjoyed everything we had. If you can’t decide on what you want or can’t agree where to go Pit Stop has large portions of good food at fair prices and something for everyone. Of note, there are some tables but it is primarily for take out.
Pit Stop is located at 1706 Sunrise Hwy, Merrick, NY
