On a freezing cold Monday night recently I had plans to catch up with a friend. We both had fried chicken on our minds and had heard good things about The Redhead. Cold as it was outside the place was still packed, but luckily I was able to get a table. The Redhead’s menu is fairly brief though does offer more then enough to choose from. A drink was needed and The Redhead has interesting beverages her cocktail list. The Vieux Carre (Rye, cognac, vermouth, Benedictine , biters ) in particular caught my eye. It was a great update on the classic Manhattan. My friend had a Hot Apple Cider spiked with bourbon.
To start the Low Country Shrimp Grits with andouille sausage had my name all over it. The Grits were cooked down and creamy. It’s available as a side or entree…so good I should have gone big. For entrees we both ordered the Fried Chicken. You get a breast and a thigh that are plump with meat that are grease-less and perfectly fried topped with pickles. A side of creamy grits come with and we ordered up the Brussel Sprouts as a side(I’ve had more of these over the last year then my whole life combined).
For desert I ordered the Hot Chocolate Car Bomb (Chocolate Stout, Jameson, and Baily’s Irish Cream marshmallows 🙂 which was outrageous. I couldn’t believe there was no chocolate in this. From start to finish a great meal with great service in a nice little spot that’s good for small groups, a hot date or just going over your friends latest screenplay…Oh almost forgot, they give you a yummy cookie to take home for the next day.
