I was invited out for lunch recently and as it turned out was for a spot on my list to hit City Lobster. They offer a rather large prix fixe menu at lunch in addition to their main menu with a great selection of appetizers, entrees and deserts. Appetizers include Oysters on the half shell, Calamari, a couple of salads, and of course New England Clam Chowder. Entrees included Scallops in Lobster Risotto, Salmon with a Mint Chimmichurri , Fish and Chips, Lobster Rolls, and Crab Cakes to name more than a few. Desert offerings included Key Lime pie, Profiteroles and Pecan Bourbon pie.
I choose the Oysters (4) to start and for my main the Lobster Roll (+$8) which they do with butter and herb sauce. The Oysters were plucked right from the ocean fresh. The Lobster Roll had a fair amount of Lobster meat, though my preference is with a little mayo or Tarragon dressing versus warm butter (hey, it’s a blog, not a review…I can interject my views and tastes). The Key Lime pie had just the right amount balance of tart and sweet.
The interior is fairly large with nautical touches throughout and a nice bar up front that has daily specials of its own. Service is top-notch and friendly. A great spot for lunch or dinner in Midtown right across the street from Rock Center.
